The most prestitious tea regions.
The Assam and Darjeeling regions encompass geographic and soil traits, plant types, and tea growing cultures which make teas from these areas the foremost among afficionados of fine tea. Darjeeling is home to only about 80 plantations, making some of our teas as rare as they are delicious.
It's the tea we drink.
This may be the strongest statement of them all. We know tea, we've tasted teas from all around the world, and what we sell to you is what we most believe in. Samboya Tea

Assam - Plantations:
The first tea plantations in Assam were established by regional laborers in 1835, specifically for the purpose of growing tea. Descendants of those workers are now referred to as tea tribes. Over the years, growing and harvesting tea has become the largest industry in Assam.
As one of the most refined locations for tea harvest, Assam averages a 480 million kilogram harvest of tea per year, grown on over 848 tea plantations in the state.
Assam's wide range of plantations allows for some of the finest crops, which translates to one of the best combinations for taste and character in the various tea leaves.
Our Assamese teas originate from private gardens in both the Lower Assam region, at approximately 157 feet (48m) above sea level, as well as the Upper Assam region at an average elevation of 590 feet (180m) above sea level.
Darjeeling - Plantations:
Unlike the popular Assam Region with more than 800 plantations, Darjeeling has only 86 tea plantations.
Darjeeling grows only about 10 million kilograms (22 million pounds) of the world’s most sought after teas each year, which means most teas sold as Darjeeling on the global market are in fact not Darjeeling. If you buy Darjeeling from other sources, ask whether your Darjeeling tea importer is licensed by the Tea Board India to ensure you receive authentic Darjeeling tea.
Lower plantations are situated at an elevation of about 750 meters (2,500 feet), higher ones up to 2,000 meters (6,560 feet).
Cool temperatures at high elevations retard the growth of tea leaves, in the process developing their distinctive quality. In general, the higher tea is grown, the more distinctive its body and the more concentrated flowery its aroma. Darjeeling teas have the distinctive flowery aroma and taste sought after in these harvests.
It is due to the high elevation of the plantations that very limited quantities of Darjeeling teas are produced each year during the short harvest season.
